Jean Brown of Clarks Summit, Pa., died peacefully Aug. 12, 2023, after a long and stubborn battle with Parkinson's disease.
Jean was born in Blakely on Jan. 13, 1932, the daughter of Michael and Anna Fallot Fex Sr. She attended Blakely High School and Mansfield State Teacher's College. After graduation, she taught for a short time, then married and raised her five children, largely on her own after her husband's early death. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit for the last 55 years and a longtime member of its choir. Jean also sang with the Scranton Singers Guild and the Ekumen Chorale. Jean was most at home in her kitchen and was known for her wonderful meals, as well as breads, sweet breads, cookies and pies. No one came into her home that did not receive an offer of something to eat and a cup of tea.
Jean is survived by her children, David (and wife, Diane), Donald (and fiancée, Donna Gratto), Kenneth (and wife, Mary), Karl (and wife, Jean) and Linda Dias (and husband, Manny); 17 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; as well as her extended "adopted" families, the Acker family among them. She was truly in her element when it came to raising the children who shared her home.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Keith G. Brown; her brother, Michael Fex Jr.; and her granddaughter, Kaila Oravec.
A special word of thanks is due to the Pines Senior Living for providing a welcoming home for the last several years and to both the Pines and Compassionate Care Hospice for their care to Jean and her family over the recent months and weeks. Both went beyond what we could have hoped for to keep Jean safe and comfortable.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family, with a memorial service to be held at a later date at the First Presbyterian Church, Clarks Summit.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Clarks Summit; or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research.
Arrangements by the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, Clarks Summit, Pa.
