Listen to Obituary

Jeff Maier, 69, passed away at his home in Dalton on Wednesday, May 22 with his loving wife by his side. His wife of over 36 years is the former Judy Brazil.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John Arch and Mary Weise Maier. Jeff graduated from Central High School and Johnson School of Technology and, prior to retirement, worked as a carpenter.

Jeff lived each day as an adventure. One of his greatest loves was music, particularly seeing Todd Rundgren in concert. He cherished spending summers on Lake Ariel, in the cottage he and his family rebuilt, where he delighted his nieces and nephews with countless stories, jokes, and campfire games. His lifelong friends, Dick Loftus, Matt Spott, Walt Kelesky, Kevin Kearney, Bob Zigray, and the late Tom Stevens had an unbreakable bond that led to close to 50 years of annual fishing trips. Many friends and family enjoyed attending his Oktoberfests on Lake Ariel and the Harvest Moon party at his farm in Dalton. Needless to say, Jeff loved to throw a great party. He always sought to make personal connections; if you met him once, he remembered your name for life.

In addition to his wife, Jeff is survived by his brother Arch (Kathy) of Nicholson, sister Janet Geeza (Gene) of Dalton, and brother Robert (Norine) of Scranton, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him as much as he loved them.

The family would like to thank Traditional Home Health and Hospice, especially nurses Brianna Smoke and Sarah Merritt for their compassionate care. In Jeff's words, "Nurses are heroes!"

Friends and family may pay their respects on Saturday, June 1 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please practice Jeff's compassion of treating everyone with kindness and making friends wherever you go.
