Joan M. Berkoski

It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Joan M. Berkoski of Newton Township. Joan died on Wednesday morning 10/4/2023 at Allied Skilled Nursing, Scranton. She was the widow of her beloved husband Bernard Berkoski. The couple were married over 46 years before his death in 2010.

Born in Newton Township, Joan was the daughter of the late Jacob "Jake" and Joanna Lisowski Pawlikowski. Joan was a graduate of Newton-Ransom High School and, prior to retirement, worked in Sales for Schwanns and Tony's Pizza. Joan was an active member of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Clarks Summit.

Joan was a dedicated Girl Scout troop leader in her younger days and devoted owner of her loyal and recently departed Rat Terrier dog, Jilly. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, gardening and an occasional one armed bandit excursion to Mohegan Sun with her dear friend John Romanowski.

Surviving are daughters Lisa Marie Berkoski of Delaware and Pamela Ann Neifert and her husband Bill of Pocono Pines; grandson Tommy Neifert of Pocono Pines; honorary daughter Marisa Litwinsky and honorary grandsons Johnny, Adam, and Ryan Litwinsky; goddaughter and niece Christine Verdetto and great niece Capria Verdetto.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State Street, Clarks Summit by Msgr. Joseph G. Quinn, pastor.
