Joan Buckingham

Joan V. Buckingham, 81, of Forkston passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at her home. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Donald Buckingham.

Born in Nicholson on November 3, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary Rodney Spickerman.

She was a 1960 graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School. She worked at the Clarks Summit State Hospital for 15 years. She loved spending her time cooking and canning. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, and gardening.

Joan was reserved in her emotions but showed love in many other ways. Through her love of cooking and never letting anyone go home hungry. In her crafting with a gift for a baby or a wedding in the family. Special treats at Christmas time for the special people in her life that meant the most to her.

She was like a lot of moms, wives, sisters or aunts in any family. What made her special was she was our mom, our wife, our sister and our aunt. She was the Matriarch of our world and loved by many. She never worried about how well she was loved or by who. She always spoke her truth. She was the best mom, the best wife, the best sister and the best aunt for our family and will be forever missed by those who understood her truth. She was full of wisdom from life's experiences and always in her own way tried to teach all of us what she learned not by worrying about what others thought of her but by speaking her truth.

To thine own self be true-and that she did! Go with love from all who knew you well.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Carolene Dunlap and husband Forrest; stepsons, Donald Buckingham and wife Elise and Terry Buckingham; brother, Fred Spickerman, Jr. and wife Debbie; several step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jane Howell.

Family and friends are invited to attend Joan's funeral service which will be held on Saturday February 18, 2023, at 11:00 AM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657. Interment will follow in Overfield Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday.
