Joan Thomas, 78, of Scott Township, died Thursday at home. She was the widow of Ronald Thomas, to whom she was married for 44 years. She was the daughter of the late John and Pearl Pregnar.
She was a 1965 graduate of Scott High School and remained active with her classmates and organized class reunions. She attended Lackawanna Junior College and East Stroudsburg University, where she received her Bachelor's degree. She spent most of her career as a Claims Representative with the Social Security Administration, pausing to spend time raising her son.
Joan was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Scranton and was a supporter of Countryside Community Church in Clarks Summit. She enjoyed her time as a member of the Covenant Women's Circle and as a member of her exercise group. Joan was appreciative of the family and friends that had been such a help to her recently.
Joan is survived by her son, Brian, his wife Jessica; sister Nancy Pregnar, her husband James Bostic; and nephew Austin Bostic; and many cousins.
Services will be held on Friday, May 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Scranton. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church - 550 Madison Avenue, Scranton, PA 18510.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
