Joanie Garnecki

Joanie Garnecki, age 71, of Scott Township, passed away unexpectedly on November 22, 2024.

Joanie was born in Johnson City, NY on December 24, 1952, and moved to the Clarks Summit area as a teenager. She was the beloved daughter of the late Riccardo and Margaret Girello. She was a graduate of Abington Heights High School.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Frank Garnecki, with whom she built a life filled with love and joy. Also surviving are her daughter, Jennifer Sekol of Factoryville, PA and her husband Chris; sisters Bonnie Richards of Dalton, PA and Denise Reinhart and husband Bill of Waverly, PA; brother Rick Girello and wife Terrie of Punta Gorda, FL; and her treasured grandson Crosby.

Joanie's passion was gardening, and she poured her heart into making a beautiful garden that was admired by all. She also enjoyed Thai Chi, baking, nightly chats with her sisters, and lunches with friends. She always baked with love, whether for the local youth shelter or while making her coveted Christmas cookies. She kept an impeccably clean and beautifully decorated home, of which she was very proud. She also had a wonderful circle of friends, some lifelong, whom she cared for very deeply. Above all, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandson Crosby, with whom she shared a very special relationship.

Her professional life included roles at Northeastern Envelope Co., Costa Cards, the Waverly General Store, and as a dedicated babysitter for her good friend Peter and then later her grandson. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit for over 50 years and her church community was very important to her.

Joanie will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the deep love she had for her family and friends.

A funeral will be held on Saturday December 7th at 3:00 pm at The First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit. Friends may visit from 1:00 until the time of the service.
