John Francis Borden, 51, of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2025, after a brief illness.
Born on January 20, 1974, in Tunkhannock, he was the son of James F. Borden and Joan Plumley Borden.
John graduated from Tunkhannock High School in 1992 where he was a star place kicker on the football team making many extra point conversions as well as long field goals. He went on to study Civil Engineering Technology at Penn State University. He began his career as a surveyor and optical alignment technician, where his precision and skill earned him great respect. Later, he joined Borden Accuracy, where he became a talented machinist and a valued member of the team for many years.
A true outdoorsman, John found joy and peace in nature. He especially loved turkey and deer hunting and was known for his exceptional turkey calling ability-often sought after by friends eager for his help in the woods. His love of precision extended to competitive shooting as well; as a teenager, he was an accomplished Benchrest shooter, winning numerous registered matches and earning the title of Pennsylvania State Benchrest Champion in the mid 1990's.
In addition to his parents, John is survived by his loving wife, Karen Borden; son, Connor Borden and wife Bryanna; stepson, Matthew Montross and his wife Kayla; stepdaughter, Tanya Montross; and grandson, Cole Knight. He is also survived by his brother, James J. Borden and his wife, Joyce; sister, Andrea Mecca and her husband, John; brother-in-law Todd Marcy; nieces, Ashtyn Mecca, Laney Mecca, and Amelia Borden; and nephew, Landon Borden.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Joseph R. and Betty Hammond Borden, and his maternal grandparents, Francis and Fern VanZile Plumley.
John will be remembered for his quiet strength, sharp wit, love of the outdoors, and deep devotion to family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend John's Celebration of Life which will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 3:00 PM from the Marcho, Sheldon, and Kukuchka Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657. Interment will be held in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of service on Saturday.
