John Joseph Brogan

John Joseph Brogan, 99, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center, Scranton, Pa.  Born February 26, 1924 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Francis and Marie Naughton Brogan.  John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dolores Vilkas Brogan in 2011.  He served proudly in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Rail and enjoyed relating stories from his service days. He was a welder by trade, and retired from the maintenance department at the PA State Office Building in Scranton.

Surviving are his son John (Fran), Clarks Summit, Pa.; his grandson Jonathan, Los Angeles, Ca.; his sister Romayne Melnick, Delray Beach, Fl. and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his son Mark, his brothers Francis, Matthew, and Harry and sisters Ann Marie Roland and Mary Brogan.

A private funeral service with US Navy Honors will be held at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, Pa.  at the convenience of the family.
