John Elon Conklin, 82, of Dalton, PA passed away December 24, 2025.
Born on January 28, 1943, he was the son of John and June Conklin of Wanaque, NJ. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force (1961-1965) and later joined the Pompton Lakes Police Department from which he retired in 1992 as a Detective Lieutenant. He was a graduate of William Paterson College.
John was larger-than-life, always going 110, quick with a story and the first to jump in to lend a hand, embodying honesty, integrity and resilience in everything he did. He taught us the importance of family, hard work, and compassion through his actions, never wavering in his commitment to provide and protect.
His passions included fishing, hunting, gardening, and woodworking, all of which brought him great joy that he shared generously, leaving lasting memories. He loved to travel, especially to his favorite place Yellowstone National Park. He was our hero, our safe harbor, and the standard by which we will always measure ourselves.
Though our hearts ache with his absence, we find comfort in the countless lessons he imparted and the unconditional love he showered upon us. He will forever live on in our hearts, a guiding light and a constant source of inspiration.
John was predeceased by his parents and two of his brothers, Tom and Donald; and his wives Sandy (1997) and Johanna (2015).
He is survived by his daughters from his first wife: Sue, Christine Smith and her husband Michael, Franklin NJ, Terri Martin and her husband Daryl, Newton NJ, and his daughter Tammy Ozdemir, Franklin NJ; his brothers Bruce Conklin of Ringwood NJ and William Conklin of Hobe Sound, FL; his six grandchildren: Michael, Connor, Abby, Jay, John and Sofia; and three Great-Grandchildren: Briar, Everly and Madelyn. John is also survived by his wife Diane Cosner of Dalton, PA, and her three children: Paul Cosner, Stephen Smith and Lori Zwick.
A memorial service to celebrate John Conklin's life will be held on March 28, 2026 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 School St. Clarks Summit, PA by the Rev. William Carter, pastor. Friends and family are invited to join in remembrance, support and to share love and stories.
