John Nonnemacher, 76, of Jenningsville passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Highlands Healthcare, LaPorte.

Born on October 9, 1947 in Jenningsville, he is the son of the late Howell Nonnemacher and Amy (Stevens) Nonnemacher

John graduated from Tunkhannock High School in 1965. Following his education, he embarked on a remarkable career that spanned several fields. John spent several years working at Sire Power, where he dedicated himself to his work with unwavering enthusiasm and commitment. He also contributed his skills and expertise to Kelly Services at Procter and Gamble. John was also a valued member of the Jenningsville Township team for many years, where his dedication and professionalism were greatly admired.

John's contributions extended far beyond his professional endeavors as he served with great honor during the Vietnam War. From 1966 to 1972, he displayed bravery and resilience as a sergeant in the United States Army. His unwavering commitment to his country earned him the utmost respect from all those who knew him. John also proudly served as a military pallbearer during his time in the army

One of John's most remarkable traits was his genuine desire to make people smile. He had an infectious personality that lit up any room he entered. His kindness and warm-hearted nature endeared him to everyone fortunate enough to know him. As an avid lover of dogs and the outdoors, John found happiness in nature preserves, antique shows, auctions, and history museums. These interests provided him with endless joy throughout his life.

Beyond these passions, one of John's proudest accomplishments was his skill in canning and gardening. He took great pleasure in tending to his garden and preserving its bountiful harvest through canning methods.

He is survived by daughters, Jill Heeman and husband Fred, Anne Nonnemacher; sons, John Nonnemacher, Jr. and wife Diane, Mark Nonnemacher; sisters, Nancy Saxe and Sue Weaver; grandchildren, Amy Askew-Chilson, Joshua James Askew, Falon, Wyatt, Elonna, Calie, Hailey Nonnemacher; 8 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren, Destiny Bunney, Darren and Dylan Laytos .

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by daughters, Lynda Nonnemacher and Jane Nonnemacher; son, James Nonnemacher; brothers, Howell "Chip" Nonnemacher and Kim Nonnemacher.

Family and friends are invited to attend John's funeral services which will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 10:00AM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 with Rev. Charles Bishop presiding. Interment with full military honors will follow in North Flat Cemetery, Laceyville.

A viewing will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 5:00-7:00PM from the funeral home.
