John R. Odgers, 87, Tunkhannock, PA, known as “Jack” to his family and friends, died peacefully at home the morning of September 24, 2016. He was surrounded by his children and loved ones. Jack was born on April 26, 1929, in Moosic, PA. He is a graduate of Moosic High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. After being honorably discharged, he worked as a chef at the Community Medical Center and The Jewish Home of Eastern PA. Jack was an avid quilter and his work was featured in the Tunkhannock Examiner. He will be fondly remembered for his Sunday afternoon poker games. He was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia (2006), his parents Charles and Gladys Odgers, brother Charles Odgers and son-in-law, Barry Smith. He is survived by his sister Shirley Sanders of Moosic, and brother Tommy Odgers of Moosic; seven children and their spouses: Carol and Joseph Costa, Debby Smith, Mickey Holton, Jack Odgers Jr., Bob and Robin Odgers, Barbara and Kenneth Shirtz and Susan Odgers; nine grandchildren: Robert John Jr. (RJ), Aaron, Larissa, Nathan, Stephen, Adam, Salina, Jericho and Megan; and two great-grandchildren: Deegan and Caydan; and several nieces and nephews. As per Jack’s wishes, he will be cremated and buried with his wife, Sylvia. Services will be a later date at the convenience of the family.
