John Wilk, Sr., South Abington Township, died Saturday morning at Elan Gardens, Clarks Summit. He was the widower of Elaine A. Batroney Wilk, who died in 2003. The couple had been married 45 years.
Born in Edwardsville, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Kondrak Wilk. He was a graduate of Keystone College and Wilkes University. Prior to his retirement, John worked for Acker Drill and Abington Heights School District. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served in Korea. He was a member and lector at Our Lady of the Snows Parish for many years and was an avid golfer who enjoyed traveling. John was a fan of Penn State, the Eagles, and the Steelers. He was also active at the Clarks Summit Senior Center where he met his companion and good friend, Dolores Hyduchak.
Surviving are a daughter, Marilee Mulvey and her husband Dennis of Factoryville; three sons, John, Jr. and his companion Mary Straka of South Abington, Michael and his companion Ann Summa of East Stroudsburg, and David and his wife Rachel of Scranton; five grandchildren Max, Zoe, Christopher, Jordyn, and Taylor; three great grandchildren Amelia, Delilah, and Julian; a sister, Theresa Menik and her husband Joseph of Edwardsville; a brother-in-law, Matthew Batroney and his wife Carol of Kingston; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Papivchak, Irene Parsons, Margaret Dainowski, and Anna Wilk.
John's family would like to thank Dr. Sluck and staff, as well as the staffs of Elan Gardens and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their kind and compassionate care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:30 am at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 South State Street, Clarks Summit by Msgr. Joseph G. Quinn. Interment with military honors will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 South State Street, Clarks Summit.
