John T. Walsh, South Abington Township, died Sunday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He was the husband of Kathleen Hanly Walsh, who died in 2021. The couple had been married 60 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Theodore and Helen Gallagher Walsh. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Prior to retirement, John was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church.
Dad loved attending mass and church picnics. He was an avid gardener. He enjoyed walking, watching baseball games, reading and spending time with his family.
Surviving are two sons: Patrick Walsh, Scranton, and Brendan Walsh, Maryland; a daughter, Deirdre Gilligan and husband Jack, Virginia; three grandchildren: John, Tara, and Stella Gilligan; brother Jerome Walsh and wife Nancy, Scranton, and sisters Helen Marie May, Scranton, and Mary Theresa Gower, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Walsh.
The family would like to thank Dr. William Dempsey, the Wright Center, and Our Lady of the Snows Parish.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church by The Most Reverend Jeffrey J. Walsh, bishop of the Diocese of Gaylord, Michigan. Interment with military honors will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Family and friends may call Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 301 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Snows, 318 S. State Street, Clarks Summit or the National Kidney Foundation.
