Joseph George Nice, son of George and Mary of Edwardsville, PA was born on November 19, 1922. He passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital, Newark Delaware on July 21, 2021at the age of 98. Joe graduated from Edwardsville high school in 1941. He joined the Navy during World War II in 1943. He spent 3 years on a troop transport ship piloting his amphibious craft during the D Day invasion and traveling to many countries throughout the globe. After the war he worked for Westinghouse in Chester, Pennsylvania and then drove buses for the Red Arrow Bus Company for 19 years. He later joined the DuPont Company in 1968 retiring after 16 years of service in Newport, DE. He was a member of the VFW and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Delaware Rifle and Pistol Club and shot on a team in the tri-state area as a marksman. In later years he enjoyed time at the senior center where his favorite pastime was winning at pinochle. He is survived by his daughter JoAnn Quill (Ben, deceased), and sons Gary (Dawn), and George; granddaughters, Ashley Funk (Vance) and Brandy Zmuda (Patrick); greatgrandchildren, Madison and Lydia Funk and Dalton and Margo Zmuda; sisters Christiana Augustinski and Betty Timalonis; sister-in-law, Marie Nice along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Florence in 1980. His brothers George and Paul, and his sister Mary Barto. The Family wishes to thank his neighbor, Richard Balbach, for his many years of help and friendship. A private family burial will be held in Wilkes-Barre on July 31, 2021. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Dallas. Arrangements and care entrusted to Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
