Joyce Demming, 83, of Carbondale died Monday morning in her home. She was the widow of Elwood N. Demming. The couple had been married over 52 years before his death in 2008.

Born in Clarks Summit, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Norma Weins Walters. She was a member of the Taylor Christian Community Church.

Her lifelong career was homemaker, wife, mom, grandma and she took her job seriously She was caring, kind and loving. Her passion was that her family would know and serve Jesus Christ. She succeeded and is now being told  - well done, good and faithful servant. Our mom was the definition of true sacrifice throughout her entire life as family was always first and foremost. And when it came time to lift someone before the Lord in prayer, she was always there, a true prayer warrior.

In her adult life, there was never a time she didn't have at least one cat. She was an ardent Lakeland Chiefs football fan, attending almost every game from 1975 to the recent past. She regularly cheered for Penn State and Eagles Football.

Surviving are four sons, Rev. Norman and his wife Amy of Hamlin, Gordon and his wife Jill of Vandling, Randy and his companion, Donna Royce, of Dickson City, and Douglas of Archbald; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She had twelve grandchildren/step grandchildren in order of age – Jacqueline (husband Michael), Justin (wife Becky), Gordon (wife Tiyanna), April (husband Corey), Matthew, Bradley, Autumn, Nathanael, Danielle, Jessica, Brenton and Nevaeh. She has fourteen great grandchildren – Joel, Chloe, Jaylee, Alexandria, Savannah, Natalia, Willow, Paisley, Gordon, Levi, Finn, Wayde, Natalie, Owen and the fifteenth, to be born January 2024, is her namesake - Rilah Joyce.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Skelton; brothers Frank, Richard, and Jim Walters; sister Louise Howey and granddaughter Shiloh Demming.

The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Tim Farrell for always going above and beyond in caring for Joyce.

As per Joyce's request, services will be private with interment in Stone Cemetery, Scott Township.

Services have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
