Judy Duffy, 85, of Clarks Summit, died Friday morning at her home.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Mary Fallon Tomes. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School and earned her bachelor's degree at East Stroudsburg University and her master's degree from Marywood University.  Judy taught Elementary Education at Abington Heights, then became a Special Education teacher and supervisor at NEIU19.

She was an accomplished concert pianist and a member of the Marywood Singers and Catholic Choral, as well as forming a choir with mentally-challenged adults. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows, Clarks Summit, and formerly served as their choral director.

Judy was a board member of the Philharmonic, Mid-Valley Hospital, and Association of the Blind. She chaired the hospital's annual ball and Helen Keller Day and was a former Northeast Woman of the Week.

Judy loved spending time with friends and family. She was an advocate for children, a world traveler, bridge player, and avid reader who loved history, wine, scotch, and animals, especially her cats.

Surviving is a son, John Duffy and his wife Veronica of Archbald; four grandchildren: Conor, Hannah, Tori, and Alyssa Duffy; and her companion and best buddy, Mary Kopa.

She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Duffy, who died in 2015.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, by Msgr. Joseph G. Quinn, pastor.

Friends and family may pay their respects on Wednesday from 4 pm to 6 pm at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
