Karen (Behn) Nemeth Masley, 74, of Pittston passed away Friday, November 10, 2023 at Allied Services Hospice, Wilkes-Barre. She is survived by her husband of 13 years, John Masley.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Lauranel Banks; stepsons, John and Jeffrey Masley; sisters, Laura DeBoer and husband Arlin, Marjorie Jennings and husband Kevin; granddaughter, Amelia Banks; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Nemeth.
Born on January 4, 1949 in Bridgeport, CT, she is the daughter of the late John and Louise (Kell) Behn.
She graduated from Trumbull High School in 1967 before pursuing further studies at Becker Junior College in Massachusetts.
After moving to Pennsylvania, Karen was a friendly face at Fitze's Department Store, Brown's Van Service and a private seamstress in Tunkhannock, PA. For many years she supported the community volunteering at the Annual Antique show and in Eaton Township. Later she created lasting friendships in the Back Mountain working at Pizza Perfect and Grange National Bank.
Karen's kind and loving personality endeared her to all who knew her. She had a genuine interest in the well-being of others and went out of her way to support her family, friends and community. She offered generous time and support to many local non-profit organizations.
Leisurely, the sport of golf brought Karen great joy. She treasured the friendships she made on the course and was especially honored to organize a Pink Ball Tournament with Ladies League at Newberry Golf Club. Additionally, she cherished winters in Florida with her friends in her later years.
With all she did, Karen's home was where her heart was. She took great pleasure and pride in keeping a company-ready, loving home. She relished baking and cooking to host holidays and gatherings, always ensuring that everyone felt welcome, well-fed and loved.
Family and friends are invited to attend Karen's graveside service which will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 1:00PM at South Eaton Cemetery, Tunkhannock with Father Jim Paisley presiding. A celebration of life gathering will follow at 1:30PM from the Moose Lodge, 813 Hunter Highway, Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 11:00AM from St. Therese's Church, 64 Davis St., Shavertown, PA 18708 to be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Pisaneschi. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the time of mass on Tuesday.
Arrangements and care entrusted to Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Karen's memory can be made to the Musella Foundation For Brain Tumor Research & Information, Inc, 1100 Peninsula Blvd., Hewlett, NY 11557.
