Kathy Mary Ryan left the party on July 19th, 2023. She was likely disappointed because she never wanted to miss out on a good time.
Loved instantly by anyone who ever met her, Kathy was loved most by her devoted family who remained in awe of her.
She will be greeted immediately in heaven by her best buddy and father, Paul C. Ryan. For 30 years they commuted together as Kathy was a faithful employee of Allied Services. Kathy was the proud Secretary of the Intellectual Disabilities Board of Lackawanna County. She won the Presidential Academic Fitness Award at Abington Heights High School, and the Patricia Foy Memorial Award for Courage recognized her public speaking on disability awareness. Kathy's faith was important to her, and she could often be heard reading scripture as a lector at Our Lady of the Snows church in Clarks Summit, PA and at St. John Neumann in Ocean Pines, MD.
Kathy loved being with her family and friends. She was an avid bowler and parasailer. She was the New York Giants' biggest fan. She collected TV guides, maintained an encyclopedic knowledge of television trivia, sang country music and loved movies.
Kathy proudly acted as Godmother to her beloved nephew Aidan. Aidan returned that love to her in equal measure and stayed by her side until the end. Her nieces Zoe and Piper and nephews Aidan, Liam and Finn adored her.
Kathy leaves behind two broken-hearted sisters, Jennifer and Eileen, who wonder how they will ever watch White Christmas again without bawling through the iconic "sisters" number that Kathy loved so much. Her first friend and brother, Paul, will miss taking her on vacation, making her laugh and keeping her supplied with cokes, Fritos and pretzels for the party.
Kathy never forgot your birthday or anniversary! She was funny and her laugh was infectious. She greeted everyone she met with love and kindness. Her accomplishments far exceeded what was expected of her. That vision belonged to her mother, Mary Ryan, who Kathy loved most and knew the longest. Together they made the awe-inspiring and magical life that Kathy enjoyed for 57 years.
Kathy passed surrounded by those who loved her. Although we are heartbroken, a life like Kathy's deserves to be celebrated. Family, friends, and fans may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. or Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Snows Church, 301 South State St., Clarks Summit. Interment will follow in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
