Listen to Obituary

Madeline Riccio Penny, 89, of Scott Twp. died on Wednesday morning at Allied Hospice, Scranton. She was the widow of Thomas E. Penny, who died in 2018.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Saullo) Riccio. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Warner Brothers Studio in New York and by Met Life. Madeline was a member of the Hillside Senior Center, where she enjoyed her time with the Koffee Klutch, and Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Clarks Summit, where she served as a Eucharist Minister.

Madeline will be remembered as an attentive and beloved mother, who spoke to her children several times per day, and who was affectionately known as "Memaw" to her grandchildren. She had a way of making everyone feel loved and quickly making a stranger into a friend. She loved to dance and go out to dinner, but was also an avid reader who enjoyed sweets and staying in to watch the EWTN and TCM channels.

Surviving are daughters Maryann Mueller and husband Matthew, and Andrea Yerger and husband Anthony; son Salvatore Geraci and wife Karen; seven grandchildren Andrew, Brandon and wife Danielle, Bridget and husband Max, Anthony, Alayna and husband Dustin, Nick, and Rachel; four great grandchildren, Macklin, Maxwell, Vienna and Banks; and special friend Dr. Clyde Ellsworth.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Bridget LaGuisa.
