Martha H. Redding, 82, of Lake Carey passed away Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Meadow View Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Montrose.
Born on August 31, 1943, in Wilkes-Barre, she is the daughter of the late H. Monroe and Martha (Oliver) Houtz.
Martha's educational journey began at Wyoming Seminary, from which she graduated in 1961. She furthered her studies at Cedar Crest College, eventually earning her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Wilkes University in 1964. After completing her education, she dedicated herself to teaching in the Back Mountain area, where she inspired countless students. Her passion for education led her to Pittsburg, where she continued her career before returning to Tunkhannock, where she taught part-time and embraced the role of homemaker.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her beloved dog, Dallas, who brought her comfort and joy. Martha also treasured her experiences at the Houtz family cottage on Lake Carey, which held a special place in her heart. She cherished the simple joys of going to yard sales and craft shows, alongside collecting unique items.
She was a former member of the Junior League of Wilkes-Barre and contributed her time and efforts to the Tyler Hospital Booster committee. Martha's passion for antiques led her to organize antique shows as fundraisers.
She is survived by her son, Steven Redding and wife Lori; former husband, Dr. David Redding; grandson, William Redding; nieces, Diana Kudrich and Nancy Houtz.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brother, Charles M. Houtz, II.
Family and friends are invited to attend Martha's Celebration of Life which will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 3:00 PM from the Marcho, Sheldon, and Kukuchka Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 with Rev. Kurt Goglin presiding. Interment will be held in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of service on Monday.
