Mary E. Belunis

Mrs. Mary E. Belunis, 96, passed away Sunday evening December 1 at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born in Scranton on November 25, 1928.  She was formally from Covington Township and Dalton,Pa.

She leaves behind her loving husband, John E. Belunis, who she was married to for 61 years; son John P. Belunis; daughter Janice and her fiancé Bill Dougherty; sister Rosemary Kubasko; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister Angela Minella, brothers John, Joe, Russell, Tony, Fran, Frank. All who she loved very much.

Mary was a wonderful mother, sister and friend who showed us all what true love meant every day. She would make incredibly delicious homemade bread, Easter bread and anise cookies for the holidays and would often donate her baked goods for church bake sales and gift to neighbors, friends, and family. She baked for days and loved every minute!

She was employed in the garment industry in the Scranton area for decades and was known for her exceptional skill and how she helped co-workers learn and excel. Mom had a lot of friends throughout the years. She would make everyone feel welcome and cared for.  She loved animals and had a very special bond with her beloved cats Cubby, Hiker, Minnie and Wendy who miss her very much. Mary's smile brightened everyone's heart and her compassion for all was unwavering. Mom is deeply missed. Her love will live on in all who she touched.

With deep gratitude we thank Dr. Richard Weinberger, DO, and the staff at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility second floor S. who went above and beyond giving best quality care with compassion, proficiency, and respect.

A private memorial service will be held.
