Listen to Obituary

Mary Louise Dwyer, 85, of Clarks Green, died on Friday, October 10th at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Harold Martin and Ruth Walter Dwyer. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Assumption High School, class of 1958, and, prior to retirement, worked at Marywood University in the Curriculum Lab and Library.

Mary Lou was a devoted friend, doting aunt and great aunt, and beloved daughter and sister. She was known by all for her kind and loving disposition. She always made time to help family and friends. When recently asked if she ever had any negative or angry thoughts, she responded that she just didn't have that in her. She will be remembered for her bright smile and gentle laugh.

Mary Lou cherished spending time with her nephew and niece, who lovingly called her Aunt Mae. When they were young, Saturdays were spent at the park and zoo, building models and Legos, doing arts and crafts, and the occasional trip to New York City. She always supported and encouraged and cared for them throughout their lives. In more recent years she adored being great aunt to Josh and Emma, and her favorite family time was playing competitive Uno, Yahtzee, and Sorry games with them.

Mary Lou enjoyed traveling. Ireland, Austria, Hawaii, and Bermuda were among her favorite destinations. Her best trips, however, were to Walt Disney World because she shared them with her niece and nephew.

A woman of deep faith, Mary Lou was a devoted member of Our Lady of Snows Church. She enjoyed volunteering at Allied Services. She supported animal rescue organizations as family dogs Shaggy, Buttons, Bailey, and Beau were her faithful companions.

Surviving are her sister, Kathryn Devers; her nephew, Robert Devers and his wife, Alicen, and their children, Joshua and Emma; and her niece, Mary Ellen Devers. She was also blessed with many close friends throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Martin Devers.

Mary Lou's family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Linda Frantz and staff; Dr. Eliot Friedman, her oncologist at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown; therapists at Powerback Rehabilitation; and nurses at Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:00 am at Church of Saint Gregory, 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Green. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may pay their respects at the church from 10 am until the time of the mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
