Mary Judith (Judy) O'Boyle, 86, of Clarks Summit, passed away on Thursday, August 1 after an illness. Born April 28, 1938 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph O'Boyle and Mary Nazarita Burke O'Boyle, Clarks Green.
As a teenager, she and her younger sister, Catherine, were reared by their great aunts, Elizabeth and Dorothy Burke in Clarks Green, upon the deaths of their parents within 10 months of each other due to illness.
Judy was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of St. Paul's church in Green Ridge. She attended Clarks Summit Elementary School, and graduated from Holy Rosary High School, Scranton, class of 1956. She trained and worked at Moses Taylor Hospital as an x-ray technician. Later, she went into the clerical field, working at Northeastern National Bank; Trane Company; and Tobyhanna Army Depot, where she retired after 30 years of federal service. In retirement, she attended Lackawanna Junior College and worked for Community National Bank N.A. in Daleville, PA.
She was a former member of the Catholic Choral Club and Catholic Junior League of Scranton. She was a 32-year member of the Scranton Business and Professional Women's Club where she was past President from 2006-2008, Woman of the Year in 2010, and District 8 Woman of the Year in 2011.
Judy is survived by her sister, Catherine Anne Plishka, Clarks Summit; her niece Karen Elizabeth Plishka, Sunnyvale, California; her nephew Robert Joseph Plishka Jr. and wife Christine, Midland, Michigan; her great niece and great nephew Ella Grace and Graham Andrew Plishka, Midland, Michigan; and her cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Robert Joseph Plishka Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of Saint Gregory, 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Green. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
Friends may call on Sunday, August 11 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
