Mary Elizabeth Zucosky passed away peacefully on November 1, 2022 at Mountain Top Healthcare Center in Mountain Top, PA, after a period of declining health. For the previous two years, Mary resided at The Pines in Scranton, in the Evergreen memory care unit, where she enjoyed a full and engaged life living with dementia. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the team at The Pines, Geisinger Hospital and Mountain Top for the excellent care Mary received, most especially to Vince Baglivo who modeled dignity and compassion in all he did to support Mary's journey.
Born on October 4, 1937, Mary was the daughter of Thomas E. and Marian O'Neill. She grew up in Watertown, New York and in 1959 married Robert Zucosky. Together, they celebrated sixty-one years of marriage before Bob's death in 2020. Throughout their marriage, Mary and Bob moved where his career promotions took them, raising their family in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey and Massachusetts. Mary was a stay-at-home mom when her children were small and went back to school, to study Psychology, at The Ohio State University in the 1970s. When the family moved to Massachusetts, Mary enjoyed a very successful career in real estate until her retirement from the profession.
Mary was a lover of all creatures, most especially dogs, deer and red cardinals. When she and Bob moved to Dalton, in their retirement, Mary became a member of the "Red Hat Society" which brought her great joy. When Mary and Bob were still able to live independently, lunch at Wegman's in Dickson City became an important part of their weekly life and they were always met with a warm welcome. Mary especially enjoyed the delicious pizza and the kindness of special friend, Judy.
Mary is predeceased by her husband Robert T. Zucosky; daughter, Elaine Zucosky Wiley; father Thomas E. O'Neill; mother Marian H. O'Neill; and brother Thomas H. O'Neill.
She is survived by daughter Jacqueline Ann Zucosky Heitmeyer of Ohio; son Robert T. O'Neil of Maine; eight grandchildren: Anna, James, William, Luke, Hanna, Benjamin, Alix and Erika; and several great grandchildren.
Services will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 State St., Clarks Summit, PA 18411
