Merritt Wesley Pedrick, 96, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
Born in Scranton, PA on August 12, 1928 he was the son of Merritt Wesley Pedrick and Katherine Claus Pedrick. Wes was preceded in death by his loving wife Margaret (Moogie) Lloyd in 2001. Wes led a life marked by love and devotion to his family, church and country, embodying values of kindness, discipline and generosity.
Wes obtained Eagle Scout and would go on to be involved in scouting throughout his life eventually becoming a scout master. He volunteered and honorably served in the Navy Reserve for 2 years. He served as a deacon in the Presbyterian Church and later served on various committees in the Methodist Church. After dedicating forty years working for Bell Telephone as a lineman and then a switch technician he retired. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons for 67 years and an active member of the Irem Shrine. He passionately supported the Shriners Children's Hospital. Other charities included St. Judes and Native American college and building funds.
Wes was hard working with a strong work ethic. He loved working with his hands doing electronics, carpentry and electrical work. He was a talented artist gifting his many oil paintings. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, hiking, swimming and working in and around nature. After retirement he enjoyed traveling and later in life relaxing in his apartment at Wesley Village, participating in the many activities with friends.
Wes was preceded in death by his sister Louise Fetterolf, brother Edward Pedrick, and nephew Eric Fetterolf. Surviving are his loving children and grandchildren: Susan Sherman and husband Wayne, Nancy Hylind and husband Mark, Merritt Pedrick and wife Gloria; grandsons Derek Sherman, Jeff Sherman and wife Liz, Merritt Pedrick and wife Jessica, Kyle Pedrick, Quintin Pedrick, Michael Hylind, George Hylind, and Nicholas Hylind; also a niece and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later day by the immediate family.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 3551 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Clarks Summit.
