Nancy Marie (DeRiggi) Curra passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025 at the age of 93, leaving behind a legacy of deep faith, devotion to family, and quiet service to all who knew her.
Born in Dalton, Pennsylvania, on May 27, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Anthonio and Celestra Capalongo DeRiggi, immigrants from Naples, Italy. She was the eleventh of twelve children and grew up on the family vegetable farm, surrounded by the love, values, and strong bonds of a large Italian family.
Nancy began her education at the Waverly School and, following the consolidation of local school districts, proudly became a member of the first graduating class of Clarks Summit High School in 1951. After graduation, she worked at Maryknoll Seminary, serving as administrative assistant to the president.
In 1953, Nancy met and married the love of her life, Anthony Curra, Sr., originally from Rombiolo, Italy. Together, they shared 64 years of marriage and built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. They raised three children and made their home in Freeport, Long Island, until retiring in 1978, when they built a home and returned to Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.
Nancy was deeply involved in the Freeport community, serving as president of the Freeport PTA and working as a teacher's aide and as an administrative assistant in the principal's office at Freeport High School. Her kindness, reliability, and warmth were felt by all who worked with her.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Nancy took great pride in her family. Her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews often sought her guidance, trusting her counsel. Her faith was the foundation of her life. A devoted Catholic and longtime member of the Church of Saint Gregory, she was active in St. Gregory's Women's Guild, attended daily Mass, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and volunteered faithfully for parish functions. She dedicated many hours to bringing the Eucharist to residents of nearby nursing homes.
Nancy lived by the words she often shared: "God, health, and family first." She was a woman of integrity, respected by all who knew her. An avid reader, Nancy also loved gardening, cooking, baking, refinishing antique furniture, and playing pinochle. Her home was warm and welcoming, and the comforting aroma of something delicious simmering in her kitchen was a constant. She delighted in discovering new recipes clipped from magazines and could hardly wait to share them with her family and friends.
Nancy is survived by her two sons, Anthony Curra, Jr., and his wife, Mary, of Clarks Summit, and Tom Curra of Factoryville; her daughter, Celeste Curra Krut, and her husband, Tom, of Clarks Summit; her grandchildren, Michael and Stephen Curra; Tom Krut Jr. and his wife, Hilary; Nicholas Krut and his wife, Samantha; Jacqueline Krut; Christina Krut Belk and her husband, Dan; Mariel and Anthony Curra; her great-grandchildren, Tucker, Cohen, Orrin, Maddox, James, Graham, Quinn, and Delaney; and her brother, Leonard DeRigge, of Clarks Summit.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anthony "Tony" Curra, Sr.; her brothers, Michael, Neil, and Frank DeRigge; and her sisters, Filomena Ciocci, Antoinette DeLeo, Rose Harhood, Josephine DeRiggi, Angeline Hnatko, and Mary Catalano.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all of Nancy's caregivers for their compassion and kindness, with special thanks to the staff at The Gardens at Green Ridge and Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on January 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Saint Gregory, 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Summit. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at a later date in Clarks Green Cemetery.
