Paul John O'Hearn, 86, of Tunkhannock, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Tunkhannock Rehab and Health Care Center. He is preceded in death by his former wife, June O'Hearn and survived by his partner of 25 years, Joanne Lindsey.
Born on February 21, 1939, in Scranton, he is the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Davis) O'Hearn. Paul attended West Scranton High School where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. Paul also boxed locally.
Paul worked at Procter and Gamble from 1971 until his retirement after a fulfilling career. Post-retirement, Paul worked for many years as a constable and security guard as well as a driver for many auto dealerships. He was a devoted family man, relishing every moment spent with his children and loved ones. Paul was very proud of his Irish heritage. The family trip to Ireland held a special place in his heart. He also cherished sunny days spent in Florida with his companion Joanne. Paul had a zest for life that shone through in his numerous hobbies and interests. Paul was very active in AA and had recently celebrated over 30 years of sobriety. He found joy in traveling and a particular delight in driving around in his convertible with his friend Charlie. Paul loved being home on Saddle Lake and enjoyed his many neighbors and friends along with their support. Paul and Joanne loved their dog Tootsie and multiple cats.
His love for sports was evident, and he was a passionate supporter of teams such as the Green Bay Packers, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Celtics and most notably, the Boston Red Sox. Additionally, he was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Mary Church and rarely missed attending the annual Novena at St. Anns in Scranton. Paul was also member of the Knights of Colombus.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Hulslander and husband Tom, Margaret Schaefer and husband Stephen; grandchildren, Brendon Schaefer, Matthew Schaefer and wife Anna Lebsock, Erin Antosh and companion Chris Bill, Michael Anthosh, Conner Hulslander and wife Abby; great grandsons, Oliver and Martin Schaefer; sister, Irene Graham, loving nephews and nieces, and numerous friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Jene Delesky and husband Frank, Dorothy Thornton and husband Thomas, Mary O'Hearn; brother, Joseph F. O'Hearn and wife Helen.; infant siblings Mary, Elizabeth, Margaret, and John; brother-in-law Paul Graham, and nephews Timothy Graham and Thomas Thornton Jr.
Family and friends are invited to attend Paul's Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM from the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 99 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 to be celebrated by Rev. Patrick Albert and Deacon Ray Pieretti. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church on Monday. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM from the Marcho, Sheldon, and Kukuchka Funeral Home& Cremation Care, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to AA or the Humane Society.
