Rex Richards, Naples, Florida, formerly of Clarks Summit, died on Saturday at Thomas Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia after a cardiac event. He is survived by Sharon Davis Richards, his loving wife of eight years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Harold and Alma Richards. He was a 1967 graduate of Abington Heights High School and received his bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University, followed by several years of service in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Prior to retirement, he enjoyed a career in the pet food industry as well as running several small businesses. Rex was an elder and deacon at the St. John's UCC in Laurys Station, PA for many years.
Rex remained very active throughout his life. He enjoyed exercising, cooking with his wife Sharon, traveling and attending a range of concerts and other events. More than anything, he loved time with his family. He and Sharon would travel often to visit their kids and grandkids, actively following their athletic, academic and other endeavors.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jason and wife, A.K., St. Louis, MO; a daughter, Lindsay Pearson and partner Noah Wulf, St. Louis, MO; stepsons Scott Davis and wife, Tricia, Ashburn, Virginia, and Kevin Davis and wife Julie, Ashburn, Virginia; grandchildren Toby, Gabe, Lucy and Josie Richards, Charlie and Caden Pearson; step grandchildren Stephen, Demery, and Cali Schriver, and Taylor, Brett, and Mackenzie Davis; a sister, Margaret "Peg" Davis of Newton Township; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rex was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Richards, and their daughter, Wendy Walsh.
A funeral service with military honors will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 South State Street, Clarks Summit, with services by Karen Davis Rickaby. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
