Listen to Obituary
Richard Read III, 35, of Clarks Summit, passed suddenly at his home Tuesday evening. He is survived by his wife, Christine E. Chilcott-Read.
Born in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of Barbara Lishman Hicks and her husband Gary of Ransom Township and Richard Read Jr. of Scranton. He was a 2004 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and a 2008 graduate of Wilkes University, where he was a member of the wrestling team and football team, and he was currently in the process of completing his masters degree in business at the University of Scranton. He was a Commercial Banking Team Leader for Community Bank and was a member of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church.
Two years ago, after 11 years of courtship, Rich married the love of his life Christine and together they had two dogs, Gus Gus and Anna. An avid member of his community and an active member of the church, Rich loved his family, friends, golfing, hunting, and fishing. He played football his entire high school career and often coached his nephew Aiden, who he loved like a son. Rich's family and friends were the most important things in his life and he would do anything for anyone. He was the most altruistic, generous, and compassionate husband, son, friend, brother, and nephew. Rich will be missed beyond belief by everyone who knew him, but we know he will be with us all in spirit forever.
Also surviving are a sister, Jennifer M. Read, of Scranton; a nephew, Aiden Greene; two nieces, Emma and Kaelynn Greene; and several cousins, aunts, and uncles.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, 1310 Morgan Highway, Clarks Summit, with services by Rev. John Mackey, pastor. Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. The family requests that all in attendance wear bright, cheerful colors to celebrate Richard's life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp Freedom, 284 Number 7 Rd, Carbondale, PA  18407 or the Boys & Girls Club of America, bgca.org/ways-to-give
