Richard Read, Jr.

Richard Read, Jr., of Scranton, died on Friday surrounded by his loving family at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton.

Born in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Roberta Bush Hamilton and his late stepfather Francis Hamilton and Richard Read, Sr. of Bethel, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of the Community College of Philadelphia and, prior to retirement, was employed as a Case Manager for AmeriHealth. He attended Clarks Summit United Methodist Church.

Richard is survived by loving daughter, Jennifer Read; grandchildren Aiden, Kaelynn Mae, and Emmalynn Greene; sisters Rose Read Sawyer of Stroudsburg, Rebecca Fredricks of East Stroudsburg, and Kristina Penta of Winter Park, Florida; brother Michael Read of Denton, Texas.

He was preceded in death by son Richard Read III.

He was a kind-hearted nurse, daddy, brother, uncle, pop-pop, and friend. Richard was passionate about helping others and he loved spending time with his family. He poured his heart into everything he did. He showed up when it mattered, gave to those in need, and kept us safe. His children and grandchildren were the most important people in his life. He spent every day with them. He loved life to the fullest and lived by the motto "Do it with gusto!". We take comfort in knowing the lives he touched and that he is now at peace.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, 1310 Morgan Highway, Clarks Summit. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends and family may pay their respects on Tuesday from 5 pm to 7 pm at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
