Richard A. Lewis, 92, of Scranton died Friday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, after a brief illness. He was the widower of Elizabeth Jean Gebing Lewis, who left us in 2005. The couple were married 49 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Richard and Lillian Mae Knott Lewis. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean conflict stationed in Japan and Korea and, prior to retirement, worked as a diesel mechanic.
Richard is survived by sons Donald H. and family of Eynon, Kurt A. and family of North Abington Twp, and Douglas of Scranton; daughter Lillian Reilly and family of Scranton; and daughter-in-law Kendra of Scranton.
He was preceded in death by son Richard Nelson, infant son Donald Richard, and grandson Christopher Phillip.
Richard was a former Assistant Cubmaster then Cubmaster of Cub Pack 10, a committee man, Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster of Troop 10. Also, a member of Amad'ahi Lodge No 542 Order of the Arrow.
He was a Fifty-year member of Schiller Lodge No. 345 F & AM and was Past Master of the Lodge serving in 2007.
He loved to hunt, fish and camp. He especially enjoyed going with friends and family to Pulaski NY for salmon. Later in life, he enjoyed rides to nowhere and going to the casino.
And he enjoyed keeping the family tradition of getting Pallman's turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
Memorial donations can be made to your charity of choice or to Hospice of the Sacred Heart Dunmore, PA.
It was Richard's wish that there would be no viewing.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Clarks Summit.
