Listen to Obituary

Richard "Rick" Williams, 80, of Clarks Green died at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, on Saturday. He is survived by his partner in life, Wendy Richards.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Hollis and Pearl Singer Williams. Prior to retirement, he was the owner/operator of Williams Industrial Supply. He also spent several years with Chamberlin & Reinheimer in Scranton.

Also surviving are two sons, Matthew Williams and his wife Renee, North Abington Twp, and Douglas Williams and his wife Amanda, Clarks Green; grandchildren Luke, Emma, Hollis, and Adelaide Williams; his twin sister Holly Pittluck, Pacific Palisades, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol George Erichson.

An active and integral part of shaping his beloved community of Clarks Green, PA, Rick believed passionately in public service. Rick served as a Councilman, regularly staying involved in local matters. Rick was a long- serving member of the Rotary Club of Scranton, a Paul Harris Fellow Recipient, Keeper of the Flame, and Rotarian of the Year. Rick was an ardent conservationist and an active member of the Shade Tree Commission. He was passionate about preserving our natural beauty and would not have hesitated to yell at you in the parking lot for throwing garbage out your window or for not returning your shopping cart. Rick spent many years active in Boy Scout Troop 160. He served as a Scout Master, initiated pioneer camping at Goose Pond Scout Camp, a tradition that continues 60 years later. He received several recognitions including the Boy Scout's highest honor: the Silver Beaver.  Additionally, Rick served in the Army as a reservist. Over the years, Rick hosted a number of foreign exchange students and volunteered his time to Up With People.

Rick had a flair for history and nostalgia, frequently showing up to gatherings and dropping a few never-before-seen photos of family history on the table and leaving them behind. Rick rarely missed a family reunion and was a devoted Penn State fan. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, thoughtful gifts, silly notes and gentle mentorship. He loved to hike, read books, and treasured Christmas, traits and interests he passed down to both his sons.
