Robert Francis Reed, affectionately known as Bob, of Newton Township, died at his home on August 15, 2025. He was the loving husband of Helen Borek Reed. The couple graciously enjoyed over sixty-eight years of marriage together.
Bob was born in Scranton to the late George and Eleanor (Murray) Reed, and spent most of his life in Newton Township where he graduated from Newton Ransom High school. While in high school, he met the love of his life, the former Helen Borek. They raised their three sons in Newton Township. Bob worked for 39 years at the Ransom Paper Mill. After retiring from the mill, his love of children led him to become a school bus driver for Abington Heights School District. He was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Church of St. Benedict, Clarks Summit, since the day it was built.
Bob loved spending time with his family and extended family; he attended every birthday party, dance recital, sporting event, and piano recital he could. He traveled to Ocean City, Maryland with them every summer, though he was not a big beach fan. He was unwaveringly loyal to his family, celebrating their successes and supporting them through tough times. One of his greatest joys was to dance with his oldest granddaughter at her wedding. Bob valued family above everything and his presence will be deeply missed.
Bob made friends easily and everywhere. He enjoyed golf with his friends and sons. Bob traveled with his wife as well as Ginny and Dick Palski to Fort Myers, Florida for many winters, always inviting their children and grandchildren to join them.
Bob left this life as he lived it, giving the best hugs, teasing his family, watching Gunsmoke rather loudly, and insisting on indulging daily in ice cream and snacks with his grandchildren and later his great grandchildren. There are many local restaurants where the staff and fellow patrons will miss his lively appearance.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Jim and Don Reed, and his sister, Marilyn Saltry.
Bob will be greatly missed by his sons Dan and Bob, both of Clarks Summit; his son Tim (Allison) of Collegeville; his beloved grandchildren, Josh (Autumn), Jacque (Brian), Justin (Lynsey), Jordan, Kyle, Dana, Natalie and Claire; and most of all, his cherished great grandchildren, Dawson, Arya, Mark, Luke, and Brian.
Visiting hours are 5 pm to 7 pm at Lawrence E Young Funeral Home, Clarks Summit on August 21, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on August 22, 2025 at Church of St. Benedict, 1849 Newton Ransom Boulevard, Clarks Summit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Company or St. Joseph's Center of Scranton.
