Robert J. Ryan, Sr.

Robert Ryan, 76, of Scranton, died on Thursday evening at Allied Skilled Nursing, Scranton.

Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Alice and James Ryan. He served on the Garwood, NJ Police Department for 28 years, retiring as Chief. He was a member of the Union County Emergency Response team, the Union County, NJ Emerald Society, and was a past President of the Union County Chiefs Association and the PBA Association – Local 117. He was a past member of Rahway Elks Association and the Factoryville Sportsmen's Club. Robert was also a volunteer of Sacred Heart Hospice and a long-time member of Our Lady of the Abingtons.

He was married to Anita Ryan for 26 years and together they had four children: Ronald Ryan, Robert Ryan, Jr., Erin Panfile, and Sean Ryan; ten grandchildren, Danny, Michael, Thomas, Nicholas, Alexyss, Ryan, Morgan, Andrea, Christopher, and Caley; daughters-in-law Jessica Lopez and Joanne Ryan; and one brother, James Ryan of Sun City Center, Florida.

Robert loved to hunt, fish, enjoy a shot of Crown Royal every once in a while, and he preferred to be called "Chief".

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
