Robert W. Shay, Sr., 69, of Clarks Summit, died Monday morning surrounded by his family.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of Marjorie Ferris Shay of Dickson City and the late William Shay. He was a 1972 graduate of Abington Heights High School and was a self-employed mason. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church and the Clarks Summit Volunteer Fire Company. In earlier years, he coached his sons in baseball and football. Bob was also a PA State Games Powerlifting Champion in 1994-1995.
Also surviving are his son, Robert Shay, Jr. and his wife Carrie of Clarks Summit, Kevin Shay and his wife Michele of Waverly, Christopher Shay and his wife Amanda of West Wyoming; two daughters, Jenna Shay and her husband Jimmy of Newton Township, and Maegan Dotterer and her husband Ron of Dalton; thirteen grandchildren; former spouse Wanda Brown of South Abington Township; a brother, Bruce Shay of Clarks Summit; a sister, Linda Holgate of Factoryville; and mother-in-law Virginia Savage and her husband Bob of Scranton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church by Rev. Stephen Asomah, assistant pastor. Friends may pay their respects on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit. Interment will be private in Clarks Green Cemetery.
