Russel E. Swody

Russel E. Swody, 84, of Tunkhannock passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Meadows Rehabilitation Center. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara (Hutzler) Swody.

Born on April 29, 1941, in Clark Twp, NJ, he is the son of the late Fred and Lillian (Maybush) Swody.

He attended Broadway Junior High in Newark, NJ. Russel served honorably in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1962. Following his active duty, he remained a member of the naval reserves until 1965.

Russel's career spanned several decades, beginning with his employment at Federal Pacific in Newark until 1965. His journey then led him to work for Barry Colton in New Jersey, and he ultimately concluded his professional life at Masonite in Wysox, where he remained until 2006. Russel was known for his dedication and strong work ethic, always believing in the value of keeping busy.

Russel found immense joy in being outdoors. He cherished the simple pleasures of hunting and fishing, fostering a deep appreciation for nature. However, his proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly the time he spent with his grandchildren, whom he adored immensely.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Wendy Brown and husband Joseph; brother, Ralph Swody; sister, Sharon Bellisano; grandchildren, Megan Yakoski and Prestyn Brown; great granddaughter, Lenora Haraschak.

He is preceded death by his son, Russell Swody; 5 siblings.

Family and friends are invited to attend Russel's Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM from Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 99 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 to be celebrated by Rev. Patrick Albert and Deacon Ray Pieretti. Interment will be held in Pieta Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
