Russell Zimmerman of Dalton, 59 years old, passed away at home after battling several physical illnesses over the past few years.
Born in Tunkhannock, he was the son of Mildred Bray Zimmerman and the late Don Zimmerman. He was a 1983 graduate of Tunkhannock Area High School and, upon graduation, proudly served his country in the United States Army before starting his own business.
He loved dirt racing from a young age, first racing quads. He then raced a dirt modified at several tracks in PA and New York, only giving up driving due to illness. When he could no longer race himself, he loved to watch. He was also an avid hunter and loved being outdoors.
He leaves behind Susan, his loving wife of 27 years (together for 34) and son Scott (Alyssa); two stepsons he loved as his own, Kyle Jupin (Cori) and Frank Jupin; and his grandchildren Austin Zimmerman and Willow Jupin.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Willard and Mary Zimmerman; and Ezra and Ellen Bray; step grandmother Delores Bray; sister-in-law Karen Zimmerman; and several aunts and uncles.
A funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, with services by Karen Rickaby. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Schultzville. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Friday from 4 pm to 8 pm.
