Sarah "Jane" Maurer of Layton Road, Clarks Summit, passed away peacefully on Friday surrounded by her loved ones. Her husband and best friend of 62 years is Richard "Dick" Maurer.

Born on Nov. 25, 1936 in Wilkes-Barre, Jane was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Davis. She was a graduate of GAR High School. She loved her first job as a dental assistant, working alongside Dr. Norris Morrell Kniffin, who was like a father to her. She later went on to work at Franklin Federal Savings Bank. Soon after, she met her husband through their treasured friends, Donna and the late Fred Jacoby. Dick and Jane then spent the next 40 years developing many businesses on Capouse Avenue in Scranton, where her strong work ethic left an everlasting impact of these and many other organizations.

Jane's loving, bold, and sharp-witted personality shined bright. She passed on her strong values and spunky attitude to her daughters, Jenny Collins and Wendy Cominsky. They will always be grateful for her endless support and guidance, along with her son-in-law, Todd Collins. Jane's favorite role in life was to be her grandchildren's "Mimi." Her heart of gold inspired the lives of her grandson Andrew and two granddaughters, Amanda and Sarah. Jane lived in the "best neighborhood on earth," where she created her most cherished memories with neighbors who became her dearest friends.

Jane was grateful for her loving relationship with sister, Margaret Ochman, brother in-law Paul, as well as their children, DeeAnn and Paulie. Her greatest loss during her life was that of her beloved toddler son, Richard Charles Maurer, who passed Nov. 10, 1968. Jane was a strong, independent, intelligent woman who adored her family and will forever be remembered by those who loved her.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with interment at Newton Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.

Donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, where Jane was a member, or the donor's favorite charity.
