Spencer W. Jonas, 83, of Falls passed away Monday, July 3, 2023 at Meadows Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Dallas. He is survived by his wife, Carol Jonas.
Born on July 2, 1940 in Richmond, UT, he is the son of the late Spencer and Viola Cole Jonas.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
After graduating from Davis High School in the Class of 1959, Spencer embarked on a career that reflected his courage and commitment to service. Spencer's selflessness extended beyond his civilian career. He demonstrated remarkable valor as he served in the United States Army for an impressive 30 years. During the Vietnam conflict, he rose through the ranks to achieve the esteemed position of Sergeant Major E-9. As a highly skilled Master Blaster, he earned numerous bronze and silver stars for his exceptional performance during military operations. His valor and unwavering commitment make him the highest-ranking veteran in Wyoming County.
He dedicated 20 years of his life to the Wyoming County Corrections as a Correctional Officer, ensuring the safety and well-being of his fellow citizens. Through his unwavering dedication, he became an integral part of the Wyoming County Corrections family.
Beyond Spencer's professional endeavors, he had many passions that brought joy to his life. He found solace and contentment in hunting amidst nature's embrace, casting lines into tranquil waters while fishing, and cherishing serene moments during camping trips. These hobbies allowed him to connect with nature's beauty and find peace within himself.
One could often find Spencer enjoying music at two beloved local gatherings - the Fleetville Jam and Airport Pickers. His love for music created lasting friendships as he shared memorable moments with fellow music enthusiasts. These gatherings not only brought him joy but also showcased his radiant spirit and genuine connection with others.
Spencer will be dearly remembered for his endearing personality: kind-hearted, warm, and always up for laughter. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren, forming unbreakable bonds and gentle memories with each of them. His love and guidance touched their lives deeply, and their precious moments together will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Jessica Williams (Thomas), Crystal Jonas (Marc), Doris Kronmuller (John); brother, Terry Jonas (Mary Lynne); sister-in-law, Debbie Jonas; brother-in-law, David Stanfield; grandchildren, Julie (Tom), Joe (Gabi), Todd (Brooke), Gabe (Kali), William, Lily, Jaden, Tobias; great grandchildren, Tommy, John, Jaclyn, Jazmin.
He is preceded in death by daughter, Theresa Tetlock; sisters, Norene Hill and husband Rule Hill, Cindy Jonas, Billie Stanfield; brother, Robyn Jonas.
His legacy of bravery, dedication, and love will continue to inspire us all.
Family and friends are invited to attend Spencer's funeral service which will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 12:00PM from Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657 with full military honors. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
A viewing will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 10:00AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to American Legion Dennis Strong Post 457 or the Lake Winola Fire Company.
