Susan "Kirk" Matthias, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, surrounded by those who loved her most.

Born on December 5, 1940, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Joe Hubbard Peterson and Francis Keith Peterson, Kirk lived a life full of love, strength, and grace. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Joe Peterson Jr, and sister, Mary Wright.

Kirk was the devoted wife of the late William "Paul" Matthias Jr. Kirk met her beloved husband while attending Georgia State University. Their marriage was filled with laughter, affection, and a deep admiration for one another that never wavered.

Kirk and Paul had two children, Dianna Matthias Judge (husband, Michael Judge), and William "Paul" Matthias III (wife, Leslie Matthias) that she adored.

She built a successful career at Motorola of over 40 years, where her dedication and drive led her to rise through the ranks into management. She was admired by her colleagues for her integrity and leadership and was respected in every room she walked into.

Known affectionately as "Nana," Kirk was a proud and loving grandmother to her six cherished grandchildren: Christopher (wife, Meaghan), Ryan, Cassandra, Meghan (husband, Tom), Katie and Jacob; and great-grandmother to Patrick, James, Emersyn, and her angel Maeve. Her love for them was boundless, and she filled their lives with joy, laughter, and lessons they will carry with them forever.

Kirk is survived by her dear twin sister, Joanna McKinney, brother-in-law Ronald McKinney, as well as her nieces and nephews.

Kirk will be remembered for her southern charm, sharp wit, and the love she poured into her family and friends. Her home was a haven of warmth, her presence a comfort, and her memory a treasure that will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

The family would like to thank Allied Hospice, as well as her loving aides, Annie, Macey, and Gianna for their loving support and caregiving to Kirk.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Clarks Summit.
