Susan Kane Ruland, Clarks Summit, passed away Friday, December 6th, at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Susi was born in Orlando, Florida on July 30th, 1945, where her father was stationed for the military. She was a 1963 graduate of Clarks Summit/Abington High School and attended Keystone College and the University of Scranton, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She worked for more than 30 years at Akzo Salt Company as an Accounting Manager.
Susi enjoyed playing golf and, for many years, traveled to Florida with her husband, Jack, and their dog, Michele, to enjoy the sunshine and visit with family. While at home in the Scranton area, she spent much time with her "Kane" family, enjoying her cousins and their families. She was very proud of her Irish heritage – shamrocks were her favorite.
Susi participated for many years in planning her class reunions at Abington High School. She had many close friends from grade school and high school and they made it a point to get together for luncheons on a monthly basis.
Susi was married to her late husband, Jack Ruland, for 40 years. She is survived by her two stepdaughters, Connie Fitzsimmons (Scott) of Tequestia, Florida, and Sheree Ruland (Carol Place) of Durham, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Parker Fitzsimmons and Julianne Fitzsimmons Norris (Geoff); and great-grandchild Crew Norris.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 13th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 232 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, PA 18503. Interment will follow in Clarks Green Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, December 12th between 4:00 pm and 6 pm at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
Susi was a long-time member of St. Luke's Church in Scranton. In lieu of flowers, Susi has requested memorial donations be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church in her name.
