Irene Shiffer

Irene Shiffer "Thelma Mae", 89, of Tunkhannock passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton. She is preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Edward Shiffer, in 1999.

Born on May 3, 1936, in Wyalusing, she is the daughter of the late Hartley and Mary (Sine) Pennay.

She was a 1954 graduate of Tunkhannock High School. Irene spent over 20 years alongside her husband during his career in the USAF. She later worked at Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory. Following this, she dedicated over 20 years to the Children Service Center as a secretary.

Irene was a proud member of the East Lemon United Methodist Church, where she also served as a secretary. Irene's greatest joy was her family. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by sons, Brian Shiffer, George Shiffer and wife Cindy; daughter, Vicki Michalowski and husband Rick; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by 6 siblings.

Family and friends are invited to attend Irene's Celebration of Life which will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM from the Marcho, Sheldon, and Kukuchka Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657 with Rev. John Whitehead presiding. Interment will be held in Fitch Cemetery, Falls.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday.
