Thomas Wyda, 91, of Tunkhannock passed away Monday, January 1, 2024 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Wyda and his second wife, Hilda Moore-Wyda.

Born on March 26, 1932 in Vernon, he is the son of the late John and Mary (Partilla) Wyda.

He was a 1950 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and member of the Orange United Methodist Church.

Tom, embarked on a career that exemplified dedication and hard work. He began by working on his family farm and in construction. He joined the staff at Tunkhannock High School for an impressive span of 25 years ending his career as the Assistant Maintenance Supervisor. Tom served the school with unparalleled pride and unwavering commitment until his well-deserved retirement in 1999.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tom was deeply involved in various aspects of his community. An avid baseball player, he brought great joy to the diamonds of Vernon, Tunkhannock, Dallas, and Jenks. His talent on the field was matched only by his immense love for the sport.

In addition to baseball, Tom had an array of hobbies that he cherished throughout his life. He found solace in the great outdoors while hunting and fishing. There was something about being surrounded by nature that brought him peace and rejuvenation. Gardening was another one of his passions; tending to plants and watching them flourish brought him immeasurable satisfaction.

He dedicated himself to public service as a past member of the Tunkhannock Borough Council. Through this role, he made significant contributions to improving the quality of life for residents of Tunkhannock.

He is survived by daughter, Andrea Szabados; step-children; Keith Moore, Patty Whipple, and Holly Karichner; 5 nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by brother, Albert Wyda; sister, Pauline Sands; step-son, Paul Moore.

He was a beloved, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
