Walter B Corby, 76, of Tunkhannock passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023 at Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton.
Born on January 15, 1947 in Meshoppen, he is the son of the late Floyd and Irene Robbins Corby.
He graduated from Tunkhannock High School in 1965. After completing his education, Walter served his country with great honor as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His bravery and dedication while serving the nation will never be forgotten.
Following his military service, Walter embarked on a successful career as a mason. With his remarkable skills and unwavering commitment to excellence, he quickly made a name for himself in the industry. Throughout his 23-year tenure as a self-employed mason, Walter's craftsmanship left an indelible mark on countless buildings and structures.
Walter joined American Asphalt, where he continued to showcase his tireless work ethic. His passion for the job shone through every project he undertook at the company. Colleagues often remarked on his attention to detail and meticulous approach towards every task entrusted to him.
Walter's love for cars was evident to anyone who knew him. He was particularly fond of old muscle cars and took immense pleasure in restoring them to their former glory. Countless hours were spent rebuilding engines, tuning exhausts, and meticulously detailing every inch of these remarkable machines.
When he wasn't underneath the hood of a classic car, Walter enjoyed spending time with his beloved dogs. Their companionship brought him great joy and comfort throughout the years. Whether it was playing fetch or going on long walks, Walter cherished every moment shared with his loyal canine friends.
Square dancing was another passion that Walter wholeheartedly embraced. He found immense joy in the exhilarating rhythm and the sense of community that dancing brought into his life. His infectious enthusiasm on the dance floor will forever be remembered by his fellow dancers.
Walter was also a skilled hunter. Venturing out into nature allowed him to connect with the serenity of the great outdoors. He took pride in his ability to track and appreciate wildlife, always respecting the natural world around him.
He is survived by his son, Shannon Corby and wife Becky; daughter, Pamela Corby; former wife, Janice Corby; brothers, Charles Corby, Bill Corby; sisters, Harriet Burkholder, Alice Singer; grandchildren, Chad and Skylar Corby.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Archie, Oscar, Floyd Corby, and Mike Corby; sisters, Evelyn Galloway, Fern Krombelien, and Ruth Greenley.
He leaves behind cherished memories for his children, and grandchildren, who will forever hold him dear in their hearts. The love and support he provided throughout his life have formed an unbreakable bond within his family.
Family and friends are invited to attend Walter's funeral service which will be held Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA 18657. Interment with full military honors will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
A viewing will be held from 10:00AM until the time of service on Thursday.
