Walter T. Savitts, 69, of Clarks Summit, died at his home on Thursday. His widow is the former Patricia Morrison. The couple have been married 22 years, having first met working together at the former Mercy Hospital.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Jean Carey Savitts. He was a graduate of Abington Heights High School and Bloomsburg State College where he excelled at football and made many lifetime friends. Prior to retirement, he worked in the Billing Department of Regional (former Mercy) Hospital, and Great Valley Cardiology, Scranton.
When he wasn't spending time with his family or walking his faithful companion, Bob, he could likely be found on the golf course, in his favorite chair watching the New York Giants or another sport of his choice or manning the grill. He loved his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are three stepsons, Patrick DeSarno, Scranton, Michael DeSarno and wife Emily, Maryland, and Angelo DeSarno and companion Roslyn, Oregon; a stepdaughter, Lucy Young and husband Shayne, Dickson City; seven grandchildren, Lian, AJ, and Adam Hufford, Philip, Neyland, and Mildred DeSarno and Shayne Young; two sisters, Kathy Savitts, Clarks Summit, and Barbara King, Quakertown; two nephews, Jonathan and Benjamin King; a niece, Kelly King; and two great nephews and a great niece.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brenda Goodrich, The Geisinger CMC Oncology Team, and the numerous caretakers and healthcare professionals at Geisinger and Allied Skilled Nursing and Hospice who cared for Walter during his illness.
