Walter M. Sickler, Jr., 87, of Falls passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024 at home. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mildred (Shippey) Sickler.
Born on December 28, 1936 in Falls, he is the son of the late Walter and Sophie (Goleniewski) Sickler, Sr.
He was a 1954 graduate of Falls-Overfield School. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1955 1958.
Walter began his career as a dairy farmer before transitioning to Sire Power in 1971 to 1973. Later he joined Degilio Trucking in Ransom as a truck driver, where he spent 17 years. Lastly, Walter dedicated himself to serving as a guard at the Department of Corrections Chase from 1990 until his retirement.
Walter had a deep love for agriculture and tractors. He found joy in attending toy tractor and antique tractor shows, particularly favoring Oliver and John Deere tractors. His love for crop farming evident to all who knew him. Additionally, Walter had a deep interest in history, especially World War II, spending countless hours reading and learning about this period.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Vincent Sickler and wife Debra; daughters, Arlene Totka, Paula Brady and husband James; grandchildren, Timothy Sickler, Karen Gosney and husband Eli; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by brother, Richard Sickler; sister, Millicent Peg Weeks; son-in-law, Joseph Totka.
Family and friends are invited to attend Walter's funeral service which will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 10:00 AM from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock, PA 18657 with Pastor Brian Williams presiding. Interment will follow with full military honors in Mountain View Cemetery, Harding.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 PM from the funeral home.
