Life Legacy
Wayne B. Pugh, 79, of Tunkhannock, died Saturday, June 18 at the Einstein Medical Center Montgomery, East Norriton, PA. Wayne was born October 15, 1936 in Kingston, PA. He was the son of the late Harold and Blodwyn (Bevan) Pugh. He married Marilyn Wittmer on August 5, 1961.
Wayne graduated from Mansfield College with a BS in Elementary Education in 1959. He taught 5th and 6th grade Social Studies for 36 years in the Tunkhannock School District. Wayne also was a wrestling coach at Tunkhannock High School.
Wayne Pugh was a devoted husband, loving father and fun-loving grandfather (Poppy). He loved any and all kinds of sports and loved attending and supporting the local high school and college athletes. Wayne also enjoyed going to spring training in Arizona. He was better than any sports encyclopedia and had many wonderful stories to tell.
He also loved to travel and visit first hand, places that he taught about in his class. Amongst these places was New York City where he traveled to almost all of his life, mostly for pleasure, and he knew the city well and how to get around it via buses and subways.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years (married August 5, 1961), Marilyn (Wittmer) Pugh, daughter: Melanie Pugh, Tunkhannock, son: Jeffrey and wife, Margaret of West Norriton, PA; and two grandsons: Benjamin Kalinsky and Colin Pugh
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday from the Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church, 53 Putnam Street, Tunkhannock, PA with Rev. David Poland and Rev. Donald Drewett presiding. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 5-8 pm on Tuesday at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, PA.
