William "Bing" Gerard McNulty passed away peacefully at Geisinger Hospital on June 18th after having lived a wonderful, full 84 years of life.

Bing was a 1958 graduate of Scranton Central High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from East Stroudsburg University and a Master's degree in Psychology from Temple University.

He began his career as a school psychologist with the Abington Heights School District and was later appointed as the district's first Director of Special Education—a position he held until his retirement in 2005. Bing also served as a clinical psychologist at the Scranton Counseling Center and as an adjunct instructor at Penn State University's Worthington campus.

Throughout his career, Bing was a passionate advocate for children with special needs. He expanded Abington Heights' special education programs to better serve students and led the district in pioneering several initiatives. Under his leadership, Abington became the first district in Northeastern Pennsylvania to implement district-wide child study teams and to develop programs specifically for students with learning disabilities. The district also became the first in the state to implement inclusion programs under his guidance.

Even after retirement, Bing continued to give back by volunteering with students at Abington Heights and Head Start. He especially cherished his role as a mentor through Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America, where he developed a special bond with his "little brother," JJ.

Bing was active in his community, serving on the boards of the local American Red Cross and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America. He was a member of the Lackawanna Health & Welfare Authority, the Scranton Tennis Club, and the Country Club of Scranton. He was a founding director on the board of Specialty Defense Systems, a locally-founded company that was acquired in 2003.  Bing had a lifelong interest in politics and contributed to several local campaigns.

He loved the outdoors and spending time with his children playing tennis, golfing, swimming, and skiing. He found great joy with his longtime partner, Barb Piazza, especially watching sunsets on the boat at Lake Kewanee and dancing together. He was a loyal fan of Notre Dame and Penn State sports and rarely missed an Abington Heights football or basketball game.

Bing was full of life and had a wonderful sense of humor that endeared him to those he met. Whether sharing a funny memory, delivering a clever one-liner, or simply making light of everyday moments, Bing's humor was a constant source of joy to his family and friends.

Bing was preceded in death by his parents, William and Loretta Dolan McNulty, and his brothers, Brian, Terry, and Gary. He is survived by his children, Tara of Clarks Summit, PA; Shannon of New York, NY; Casey of Philadelphia, PA; and his beloved partner, Barb Piazza of Clarks Summit, PA.
