It is with great sadness that we mourn the death of William Speare, Jr. who passed on May 20th at Geisinger, Scranton.
Born May 28, 1936 in Scranton, he was the son of the late William "Doc" Speare and Gladys Speare. He was a 1954 graduate of Clarks Summit High School, graduated from Bucknell University, and retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was employed by the Everhart Museum for many years and retired from Allied Services.
Bill was a Rotarian and a past President of Scranton Rotary, as well as the District Governor #9410. He was also a member of the Audubon Society for many years, as well as the Lackawanna Astronomical Society, with which he participated in many solar eclipse expeditions.
He is survived by son William, sister Salli Stout, and former wife Diane Speare.
A funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 550 Madison Avenue (corner of Olive and Madison), Scranton. Interment will follow in Abington Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, offerings in memory of Bill can be made to the Covenant Presbyterian Church or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 South State Street, Clarks Summit.
